Engineering on the highest scientific level for a sustainable future
Today engineers are required to be able to work on questions of energy change and to find the neccessary solutions for a sustainable future for the planet.
The research oriented Master’s degree programme CEP is designed to prepare graduates just for those tasks. Graduates are able to work as an engineer on the highest scientific level in industry or academia with regards to clean energy processes while focussing on energy technology and energy systems. Students are enabled to become experts in their chosen specialisation.
Scientific Environment
- The CEP programme is embedded in the Faculty of Engineering of FAU and is working in close proximity to local research centres such as the Helmholtz Institute for Renewable Energies, the Energy Campus Nürnberg, the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits and the Bavarian Center for Applied Energy Research e.V. thus creating a unique environment for research and innovation.
- Mandatory laboratory courses, the possibility to work side-by-side with internationally renown scientists who are leading experts in their field, a mandatory internship as well as the possibility to do the final thesis in a research center are one of the hallmarks of the CEP programme.
Broad prospects for a future career
Based in Erlangen and its sorroundings are many well-known stock companies, medium-sized enterprises including so-called “hidden-champions” and start-ups. The programme has developed contacts with internationally renown companies, partners in the industry and institutes in the region to do joint research. It thus offers an ideal sorrounding for innovation and future career planning in research, industry or other fields like consulting.
An international programme
The MSc. programme is entirely taught in English and therefore prepares students not only to communicate on work-related topics in English but serves as a melting pot for a truly international experience right here at FAU. Thus preparing graduates for a future job in a leading position in an international environment.
Interdisciplinary approach
A holistic approach to the topic is taken with specific attention being given to all aspects of climate change and related business transformations by exposing the students to the impacts and functionalities of the energy market, correlated socio-economic aspects, as well as ethical implications of technology upheavals.
Course outline
The innovative MSc. Programme Clean Energy Processes is enabling students to increase their knowledge in chemical engineering, process engineering and electrical engieering while allowing students to choose a specialisation in energy systems or energy technology.
The study plan includes:
- laboratory courses (15 ECTS)
- specialisation modules for the two branches energy technologies and energy systems (30 ECTS)
- compulsory and elective modules (you can choose from module catalogues) (25 ECTS)
- seminars (10 ECTS)
- internship (10 ECTS)
- Master’s thesis (30 ECTS)
FAU's closeness to the leading research hub in renewable engergies and close ties to industry enable students to perfectly prepare for demanding and meaningful taks in either research or industry.
Prospects
Graduates of the programme stand out due to an extensive knowledge of innovative technologies for renewable new energy systems and energy production. They can significantly participate in the successful introduction of new sustainable energy systems and energy processes and adequately evaluate sustainability on a global scale. As they have more experience with international and research-related topics than other graduates, they are especially suited for tasks on the highest level of engineering to pursue a career in academia. They will be the ones creating the change we need for tomorrow.
