Welcome to the international interdisciplinary Master’s degree program Open Design, jointly organized by the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) and the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). Upon completion, students receive a Double Degree by the two partner universities.

The Master Open Design offers you an innovative teaching and learning concept aimed at connecting teaching, experiment and research, and encourages the dialogue between Germany and Latin America. You will be studying in an international atmosphere with highly qualified lecturers, who teach in the form of co-teaching, where at least two experts from different disciplines develop the content of the seminars as well as the assignments and teaching materials.

Your Career Perspectives


The program’s main focus is the interdisciplinary »Design Turn« in research. Students acquire interdisciplinary skills relating to a broad spectrum of empirical methodologies, encompassing cultural studies and the humanities through analysis and historicizing, scientific experimentation  from the natural sciences, and creative synthesis from the design disciplines.

The program qualifies students in cutting-edge skills such as Social, intercultural competence through collaborative work in diverse scientific work-cultures and language skills (English, German, Spanish)knowledge of diverse academic methodsknowledge of praxis-oriented problem-solving strategiescompetence in critical self-reflection within interdisciplinary teamsknowledge of the newest media technologies

Your Study Plan


The program is organized in four semesters. The first two semesters take place in Buenos Aires at the UBA and the third semester in Berlin at the HU. For the fourth semester, students may choose to work on their Master’s thesis in either city.
