Erforschung und Entwicklung von Materialien und Werkstoffen / Research and development of materials and materials
Materials Science (M.Sc.)
Society today relies on the continuous enhancement of technology, which is in turn spurred by the constant development of new materials and their optimization. If you have graduated as a bachelor of materials science or in a field of study related to materials science, you can improve your acquired knowledge with us. Our master degree programme in materials science is offered in English and therefore prepares you perfectly for an international career in research or industry. Besides the possibility of spending a semester abroad as time integrated into your master degree programme, you can focus your studies on modern topics such as nanotechnology, materials for energy applications, new electronic materials, intelligent materials or materials modelling.
Since new materials are required for all key technologies of the 21st century, like traffic, energy and information technology, the master degree programme in materials science at the Technische Universität Darmstadt offers you an excellent start to your career.
Studieninhalte
Course content
- All courses are held in English. Thus, from the outset you learn in an international environment towards a career in a global world.
- In addition to a module designed to adjust your level of knowledge, there are compulsory courses during the first two semesters in order to enhance your education in materials science.
- Depending on your interests and qualifications, the focus of your studies may emphasize functional or structural materials. In the former case the lecture "Quantum Mechanics for Materials Science" is part of your mandatory program, while in the latter case the lecture "Micromechanics and Homogenization Techniques" is compulsory.
- Starting right from the first semester, your course contains a steadily increasing part of research conducted in lab practicals held in the respective research group.
- The large selection of compulsory courses allows you to independently choose the focus of your studies.
- Optionally, the third semester is an ideal time for an exchange semester that can be easily integrated into your degree programme.
Perspektiven
Prospects
- Being a materials scientist offers you excellent prospects on the national and international job market.
- You have a scientific education for the synthesis, characterization and application of new materials that can be used in the most varied branches of industry (automobile, electronic, chemical and metal industry, materials and consulting companies) and in research institutions.
- Even in economically difficult times materials scientists find jobs in the appropriate industry or institute; today and in the near future the demand for qualified materials experts in industry and research far exceeds the number of graduates
