The Master in Advanced European and International Studies (MAEIS)European Integration and Global Studies is targeted at students who have completed their undergraduate studies. Its objective is to give students an overarching, encompassing vision of the political, social, economic, and cultural problems of today’s globalized world.

The Master programme prepares students for professional life. The institute is in close contact with international organisations, European institutions and other actors of the European political scene. High-ranking civil servants, diplomats and experts contribute to our teaching and acquaint the students with their daily work patterns in these organisations.

The programme is international, interdisciplinary and itinerant: Over the academic year students study in three different European cities:

NICE (France), BERLIN (Germany) and ROME (Italy)

The one-year-programme (60 ECTS) is taught in English.
Teaching is structured in five modules.

  • Conflict and cooperation in the international system
  • European Integration and external action
  • Federalism, multi-level governance and conflict resolution
  • Economic globalisation and sustainable development
  • Professional Skills Workshops

The Master programme is structured into three terms.

The first term starts in Nice (from October to December), it encompasses classes on the basics of all the four modules, completed by the seminar « Project cycle management », the core part of the fifth module Professional Skills Workshops.

In Berlin (January to March) the programme focuses on the experiences of Eastern and Central European countries following their accession to the European Union as well as those fundamental problems with which Turkey and other future candidate countries are faced. During this period the participants take their midterm exams.A one week study trip takes them to the European institutions and international organisations in Brussels, Strasbourg and Luxembourg.

The programme concludes in Rome (April to June) , where the Institute has a long-term relationship with the University EuroSapienza and the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI). Teaching in the four modules aims at deepening the students’ knowledge about the relations of the European Union with candidate countries, as well as with Caucasus countries, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to advance in the drafting of their thesis. The programme concludes with the defence of the thesis and the final exams.

The programme allows regular contact between students and teaching staff. The staff accompanies students to the different locations where the programme takes place. Hence, there is continual evaluation of the students’ work which guarantees the programme’s coherence.
