MTEL Organisation: Flexible, Part-Time Studies

Upon fulfilling the requirements of the Management of Technology Enhanced Learning (MTEL) programme, you will receive a Masters of Arts (MA) from the University of Oldenburg – and the prerequisite theoretical and practical foundation for management and leadership in TEL.

The MTEL master’s programme is organized into required and elective components. Six course modules are required for the master’s, and six course modules are elective, allowing you freedom of choice in deciding upon your area of professional focus. Two prerequisite, required courses will serve as the starting point for the programme: mtl100 Principles, Theory, and Practice of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) and mtl105 Practitioner Research in TEL. The first course establishes theoretical foundations in the disciplinary history, theory, and principles of ODL and TEL, while the second ensures a strong basis in research theory and practice. Skills and competencies gained in these two courses will serve as a basis for further development in all later courses within the programme.

Course modules are organised according to specific leadership and management themes. Other than the two prerequisite courses, you have the choice in deciding your learning path through the MTEL programme, as well as the number of courses you take each semester.

MTEL Programme and Module Content

Designed specifically for current and future TEL managers and leaders, the MTEL programme focuses on development of 1) student knowledge, and 2) practical professional competencies as related to technology enhanced learning (TEL) and its role in organisational and management processes, leadership and change management, information technology and business development, strategic planning and project management, quality assurance, and ethics and social responsibility.

Within the MTEL master’s programme, you will complete six required courses and a master’s course module, in addition to six elective courses, which you choose based on your individual interest and professional goals.

MTEL Required Courses

One prerequisite course will serve as the starting point for you when you join the MTEL programme. mtl100 Principles, Theory, and Practice of TEL provides you with the theoretical foundations in the disciplinary history, theory, and principles of online and distance learning (ODL) and TEL. The skills and competences that you gain in this course will serve as the basis for your further development in all later courses within the programme.

  • mtl100 Principles, Theory, and Practice of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL)

Once you have successfully completed mtl100, you can then choose from the following required courses, which can be taken in an order you define:

  • mtl105 Practitioner Research in TEL
  • mtl110 Learner Support in Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL)
  • mtl115 Design of TEL Environments
  • mtl120 Costs and Economics of TEL
  • mtl125 International and Transnational Education Issues in TEL
  • Master’s Thesis

MTEL Elective Courses

  • mtl200 Strategic Management and Educational Leadership in TEL Environments
  • mtl205 Human Resource Management for TEL Organisations
  • mtl210 Organisational Management in TEL Environments
  • mtl215 Management of TEL Projects
  • mtl220 Change Management and Innovation for TEL
