One programme – three branches

The Master in Advanced European and International Studies (MAEIS) is targeted at students who have completed their undergraduate studies. Its objective is to give students an overarching, encompassing vision of the political, social, economic, and cultural problems of today’s modern world.

The Master programme prepares students for professional life. We are in close contact with international organisations, European institutions and other actors of the European political scene. High-ranking civil servants, diplomats and experts contribute to our teaching and acquaint the students with their daily work patterns in these organisations.

The MAEIS is subdivided into three different branches: a trilingual, a Mediterranean and an Anglophone branch. Students study in three different cities over the academic year.

The Anglophone branch: Nice - Berlin - Istanbul OR Rome

The Anglophone branch takes place in Nice, Berlin, Istanbul or Rome. The one-year-programme (60 ECTS) is taught in English.
Teaching comprises five modules.

  • International Relations
  • European Integration
  • Economy and Globalisation
  • Federalism and Governance
  • Professional Skills Workshops

The Anglophone branch is structured into three terms.

The first term starts in Nice (from October to December), it encompasses classes on the basics of all the four modules (International Relations, European Integration, Economy and Globalisation and Federalism and Governance), completed by the seminar « Project cycle management », the core part of the fifth module Professional Skills Workshops.

The second term  in Berlin starts off in January where teaching in the four modules continues, with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe experience in the EU accession period, a crucial one to understand the problems of countries aiming at EU entry, as well as on EU economics. Our partner in Berlin, the Institut für Europäische Politik, provides a dialogue with European integration experts and offers an insight into political life in Berlin.
During this period the participants take their mid-term exams. A one-week study trip takes them to the European and international organisations in Brussels, Strasbourg and Luxembourg.

The study location of the third term for the academic year 2016/17 will depend on the political situation in Turkey. Traditionally, students study in Istanbul at our established partner, Istanbul Bilgi University. According to the situation in the country, for this academic year the programme may be moved to Rome where CIFE has a long-term partnership with the University EuroSapienza and the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI).
Teaching in the four modules aims at deepening the students’ knowledge of European integration and contemporary problems in international relations, federalism, and governance topics, as well as sustainable development issues.
Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to advance in the drafting of their thesis. The programme concludes with the defence of the thesis and the final exams.

The programme allows regular contact between students and teaching staff. The staff accompanies students to the different locations where the programme takes place. Hence, there is continual evaluation of the students’ work which guarantees the programme’s coherence.
